Stalking
Stalking

The main deer species in the Highlands are Red and Roe along with an increasing number of Sika and some Fallow. The Red deer Stag Season runs from the 1st of July to the 20th October with most of the Stalking being done after the 1st September. The Roebuck Season is from the 1st April to the 20th October but often antlers are not clean of velvet until into May.
The Red deer stalking is done mainly on the open hill throughout the day while Roe stalking takes place mainly on the lower ground and usually, during the summer, at either end of the day. Most Estates will provide a suitable rifle on loan or hire for any tenant who does not own one.
